The Canon printer is the best device to scan. Through scanning, you can easily carry a hardcopy document with you. As Canon printers are multifunctional, they can also scan besides printing. Hence, you can use a Canon printer for regular scanning tasks. Also, the Canon printer can scan a digital version of a physical document on your computer or any mobile device like Android or iPad, as it supports both Windows and mac OS. But if you don’t know how to do it, we will tell you how to scan on a Canon printer in this blog. So, please read it fully to learn everything.
There is a step-by-step guide for you to scan correctly on a Canon printer. Before going through the steps, ensure that your printer can scan. Many Canon printer models can scan; check your printer’s product page to confirm.
You have to connect your printer to the PC via a USB cable. However, many Canon printers can connect to a wireless network.
You can install printer drivers via CD or DVD came with the printer. Also, the printer drivers come with IJ Scan Utility that can be used to scan documents. If your printer doesn’t have CD or DVD, you can use the following steps to download Canon printer drivers.
Firstly, visit https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/drivers-downloads on your web browser.
Then, click Printers.
Now, select your model number or type it in the search bar and press Enter.
Choose your operating system by going to the drop-down menu near “Operating System.”
Then, click “Select” close to the drivers you want to download.
Click “Download.”
Lastly, open the installation file and go with the instructions.
Press the “On” button on the printer. If it doesn’t turn on, ensure it’s connected to a working power outlet.
Finally, open the lid of the scanner so that the glass bottom of the scanner is visible.
Find the arrow in the back-left corner and adjust the Document with that arrow. Align your Document with the top and left side of the scanner glass. However, if your printer has an automatic document feeder, put your documents in that with a face-up. Also, you can consult Canon’s instruction manual if you don’t know how to use the integrated scanner.
Ensure that the scanner lid is completely closed before scanning your Document.
Here are the steps to use IJ Scan Utility for scanning:
You must first find the IJ Scan Utility folder by following the steps on your PC or mac.
For Windows:
Click the Windows Start button.
Then, open the “Canon Utilities” folder.
For Mac:
First, click “Go” in the menu bar at the top.
Then, click “Applications.”
Open the “Canon Utilities” folder.
Lastly, open the IJ Scan Utility folder.
It has a document-like icon that says “stitch” next to a scanner. Click that icon in the IJ Scan Utility folder.
Go to the settings available in the lower-right corner of the IJ Scan Utility app.
Then, click “Document Scan,” the second option in the left menu.
For this, click on the drop-down menu close to “Data Format” and select PDF (multiple pages). Then, you’ll be allowed to scan multiple pages into a single document. However, some printers are set to scan both sides of the Document automatically. So, if your printer has this option, select “Document (ADF/Platen)” from the drop-down menu near “Select source” to activate it.
Now, you need to go to the drop-down menu near “Save in” to choose a save location for your documents and click “OK.” But by default, the documents are saved in the “Documents” folder.
Then, click Document, the second option in the IJ Scan Utility window. This option has an icon called “PDF” near the Document. Then your page will start scanning, taking about a minute to finish.
If you have to scan more than one page:
Insert the next page on the scanner or in the automatic document feeder.
Ensure the Document is aligned with the arrow in the back left corner of the scanner.
Click scan when ready to scan the next page.
After scanning all pages of your Document, click Exit. All your documents will be saved as PDF files by default in the Documents folder, or you can save them anywhere you want. This is how you can scan on a Canon printer.
