Some access points (often named routers or hubs) have an automatic connection button labeled “WPS,” which is for a Wi-Fi-protected setup and allows devices to connect to your network without entering a password. It’s one of the easiest methods to secure your Canon PIXMA printer, so if the access point has a WPS button, please choose the ‘WPS Connection Method’ below to follow these guidelines on connecting using this method.
If your access point doesn’t support WPS, please select ‘Standard Connection Method’ given below.
Before we begin with the WPS Connection Method of Canon PIXMA MG3650; here are some of the requirements:
The access point has a physical WPS press button; please refer to your device’s user guide.
For more details on which security method is being used on the wireless network, please check your wireless connection settings on your PC. Your network must be using WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) or WPA2 security protocols. If your WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) security method has been used, or if there is no security enabled, most WPS-enabled access points do not connect using the WPS method.
Please follow these guidelines given below to finish the Canon PIXMA MG3650 setup –
Step 1: The first step is to ensure your printer is on and that the WPS button on the wireless router can be clicked if needed.
Step 2: Click on and hold the [Wi-Fi] button (A) on your printer until the lamp (B) flashes.
Step 3: Click on the [Black] button (C) and then the [Wi-Fi] button (A); ensure the Wi-Fi lamp (D) flashes quickly and that the On lamp is lit. Then go to the access point and click on the [WPS] button within 2 minutes.
Step 4: The printer’s blue Wi-Fi lamp flashes while searching, and both the power and Wi-Fi lamps flash when connected to an access point. When your printer has successfully connected to a wireless network, the power and Wi-Fi lamps stop flashing and continue to light up.
Step 5: Ensure the Wi-Fi lamp and on the lamp are lit.

To confirm your Canon PIXMA MG3650 printer is successfully connected to a wireless network, you can print out your printer’s network settings:
Firstly, ensure your printer is on.
Then, load 2 sheets of A4 or letter-size plain paper.
After that, click on and hold the [Wi-Fi] button until the power lamp flashes once, and then release it.
Lastly, click on the [Wi-Fi] button, and the network information page will be printed.
When referencing the printout, check that “connection” shows “active” and that the SSID – Service Set Identifier (name of your wireless network) indicates the correct name of your wireless network.
If your access point doesn’t support the WPS part of Canon PIXMA MG3650, try the following guidelines to set up the printer on your wireless network.
Step 1 – Firstly, press on [Start Setup] when the initial screen occurs.
Step 2: Now, check to see any software updates to the drivers and will download them as needed; this takes a few minutes.
Step 3 – Then, choose your region and country, then press [Next].
Step 4 – If you accept the agreement terms, press on [Yes].
Step 5 – Press on [Agree] if you wish to participate in the Extended Survey Program; otherwise, press on [Don’t Agree].
Step 6 – To allow every Install Wizard process, press on [Next].
Step 7 – Now, choose [Wireless LAN Connection], then press on [Next].
Step 8 – Then, choose [Connect through wireless router (recommended)], then press on [Next].
Step 9: Ensure that your printer is on; press on [Next].
Step 10: The software search for any printers already set up on your network.
Detection may take time, so please be patient when searching for the software’s printer.
Step 11 – If you’ve already connected your printer to your network, choose it from the list in the “Printers on network list” window and press on [Next] to start the software installation, then proceed to step 17. If it’s your first time setting your printer, it will not be displayed in the list, so please continue with step 12.
Step 12 – Make sure “Settings printer not found in the list” is selected, then press on [Next].
Step 13: The following screen will occur briefly.
Step 14: The setup guide opens and guides you through connecting your printer to your network using the “connection through cableless setup” process.
Please follow the on-screen guidelines properly to prepare your printer for connection. Press on Next only when your printer will match the example shown in the diagrams below.
Step 15: Please wait until the setup detects your printer. The network connection on the computer is temporarily disabled during this time.
Step 16 – Once setup is complete, press on [Next].
Step 17: MP Driver & Network Tool will be downloaded and installed; please wait while the software is installed.
Step 18: Please wait for the setup to complete.
Step 19: If you are installing your printer for the first time, print head alignment is recommended after the installation is done, press on [Next]. Please refer to the User Guide for more information.
Step 20 – To do a test print to confirm the installation, press [Execute]; otherwise, press [Next].
Step 21: The setup is done; press [Next] to perform the software installation.
Step 22: Choose the software you want to install from the list, then press on [Next]. If you’re not sure what software you want to install at this stage, don’t worry because you can uninstall it at a later stage if you wish.
Step 23 – To register your printer, press on [Next] (it opens in a web browser). Otherwise, press on [Skip].
Step 24: Press on [Exit] to complete the installation.
If you want to reset the network settings of Canon PIXMA MG3650 to factory defaults, you can follow the guidelines mentioned below if you change your access point.
Please note that initialization erases every network setting on the machine, so it will be impossible to print or scan from computers on the network until your printer is re-configured with the new network settings.
Step 1 – Click on and hold the [Resume/Cancel] button until the alarm lamp flashes 21 times.
Step 2 – Turn off the [Resume/Cancel] button.
The network settings have been reset to the factory default settings.
