This project aims to identify different vulnerabilities for our computers and explore various articles on information security. We will share two articles on cyber security in the news and discuss the negative impacts caused.
The article highlights how a 24 year old Tennessee man hacked the Supreme's Court electronic filling system and has pleaded guilty in court. He hacked the system in 2023 and details on what information he accesses have not provided in the article. He managed to access the system for 25 days and his lawyer did not respond to comments from the public. Since the information that the hacker accessed has not been disclosed, the extent of the suffering or specific individuals affected is not clear.
To avoid hacking, we can implement strong authentication like having complex, strong and unique passwords and companies can offer training to their employees to help them identify suspicious activities online.

A woman in Maryland State by the name Antonia Maria has been reported and charged for identify theft and using it to rent property. The woman whose identity was stolen received a notice that her utility account had been sent to collection because of not paying her debts. The utility company reported to have two accounts under the woman's identity which raised eyebrows. The woman reported the matter to the police and follow up was done hence arrest of Antonia Maria on $50,000 bail with conditions or $100,000 bail with no conditions.
Identity theft can be prevented by shredding sensitive documents, monitoring credit reports and financial accounts. It is also important to secure devices with up-to-date software and avoid using open Wi-Fi.

This project has made me understand more on cybersecurity and how it is important to protect personal information online. It has been a wonderful experience learning how to link information on the website through the original source.
