One of my favorite classes (besides Engineering, of course!) is Band. At Leonardtown High School, I have participated in Wind Ensemble, All County Band, and Pit Orchestra. Wind ensemble is special because we practice before school during zero period, which means everyone in that class wakes up forty-five minutes earlier in the mornings to go play their instrument. I do it because I needed to make time in my schedule for Tech Center (YAY Engineering!). It also means that I don't have to ride the bus in the mornings, which is also a bonus! All-County Band is an honor band that students have to audition for. This band is exciting to get into, because we play challenging music and we are conducted by a guest conductor. So far, I have had a conductor from different universities. Pit Orchestra is one of my favorite ensembles to play in, because everyone who joins loves their instrument and is there for the music, not because they need an art class to graduate, or because their parents make them. Everyone there is to have fun doing something we all have in common: making music. Another reason I love Pit Orchestra is because I get to play and perform with friends who play string instruments, which is an experience that only happens in Pit, besides the occasional playing around we do during lunch.
In the summer of 2018, I also had the opportunity to participate in a pit orchestra for "Romeo and Juliet", the score for which my band director wrote for the six of us that participated. I had such a great time and the music, which was mostly background music and scene changes, was extremely well received. We were then invited to go play in Frostberg, MD, which is where my band director went to college, to play the music for people in march of 2019.
