Management is about persuading people to do things they do not want to do, while leadership is about inspiring people to do the things they never thought they could. Steve Jobs
Leadership Journal Review EDU 681
This artifact comes from the EDU 681 class and is one piece of the collection of leadership journals for the class. This artifact highlights many areas which cultivates, advocates, and articulates core values that define school culture such as teachers being encouraged to become transformational leaders instead of transactional leaders. The latter is traditionally how administrators have seen teachers and trained them to become since the beginning of education in America. This artifact also reveals a commitment to school mission, vision, and core values as administrators navigate a building of teachers who should be seen in roles of being a transformational leader. This artifact also contributes to educational mission of the school to promote academic success and well-being of the students since teachers will be working directly in these areas to improve the school.
This journal review also highlights some areas of benefit for the teachers being encouraged to become transformational leaders such as: 1. Assisting the school to achieve their school growth plan. 2. Help make crucial decisions that directly impact the classroom. This artifact is beneficial for future practice as it is a great guide for how to encourage teachers to become leaders within the building in order to make a direct impact on many areas for students.
Brainstorm List-EDU 684
This artifact is a brainstorm list of potential innovative/entrepreneurial solutions which contributes to the shared understanding of and commitment to mission, vision, and core values within the school and the community. The ideas in the artifact identify a problem which in this case is traditional learning holding students back from learning. A solution is that students should be experiential learners and take a hands on approach to learning instead of just sitting and reading about the topic. Having teachers and other administrators on board with this process will allow the school and community to become involved in giving these students the experience needed to be successful. This artifact also focuses on child-centered education; high expectations and student support; equity, inclusiveness, and social justice; openness, caring, and trust; and continuous improvement. The artifact covers all these areas as experiential learning and community involvement is one of the best ways to reach all students and give them a chance to continuously learn through feedback and more experimentation.
This artifact will impact future practices as an administrator because it reminds me of how important it is for kids to experience hands on learning in order to explore the world around them and become a well rounded student in the world.
Venture Proposal EDU 684
This artifact is a Venture Proposal for creating a culture at school that is includes experiential learning. This artifact models and pursues the school’s mission, vision, and core values in all aspects of leadership, especially in transformational leadership. The artifact also develops an educational mission for the school to promote the academic success and well-being of each student through implementing short term and long term goals for experiential learning to take place in a school. Lastly, this artifact also strategically develops, implements, and evaluates actions to achieve the vision for the school through these various goals.
This artifact has a problem, which is traditional education, a solution, which is to transition learning over to experiential learning, and a core focus, which is giving students the tools and skills to be ready for college and/or the workplace.
This artifact will improve future practice because the status quo of education is starting to cause students to digress on their learning path. As the world changes, so do students and the way they learn. I have to be an administrator that gets ahead of the curve and work through implementing some of these learning strategies in order for students to be able to grow and find success in education in the future.
