The goal of Helianto was the development of a concept of solar powered train. This type of vehicle has been used in touristic areas with clear advantages for the environment.

A viability study demonstrated the viability of the project. A Petri net based supervision strategy, using a realistic model for the dynamics of the train, was shown to be able to cope with energy and schedule constraints.
