Peter and the Starcatcher was by far one of the most complicated shows I've ever worked on. With puppets, intricate choreography, and an anachronistic script that blended historical and contemporary elements, I constantly needed to collaborate and communicate with others on our team in order to keep up with the many required props. Since the design philosophy of the show was based around the idea of "play", I incorporated as many staples of childhood as I could. For example, we constructed Mr. Grin the crocodile out of beach toys, inspired by the giant trash props in the musical Cats. Additionally, I utilized my sewing skills to add more character to our props, such as giving the cat a new outfit to match its fellow seamen. This was my first show as props lead at UW-Parkside, so gaining leadership experience and learning how to utilize the skillsets of the volunteers was challenging but rewarding. I later recieved a KCACTF Certificate of Merit for Excellence in Props Design for this production.Â
