The Wolves was not meant to have a dramaturg until I requested the position. The play is so centered within its mid-2010s setting that it has slowly become a period piece. I worried that the characters' references to their social studies homework may have been forgotten by our actors. Through this project, I learned how to make an actor packet and a study guide. I identified my target audience as my peers and wrote the same way I speak. I loved using context to help develop character quirks, such as how each girl pronounced "Khmer" differently. This show taught me that a play doesn't need to be a historical piece or need to tackle complicated subject matter to benefit from a dramaturg.
