Summary 

 I did my internship at Community Services for children where I worked with the Director of the Early Learning Resource Center (ELRC), Elizabeth Stair.  I worked on two main projects for the internship. The first was creating and distributing the monthly ELRC Provider and the monthly Parent Newsletters. I also worked with a co-worker on translating the family newsletters into Spanish for our Spanish-speaking families. This meets  Standard iii.C: as it was with collaboration that we were able to provide this additional accommodation. 

Throughout the internship, I was constantly reviewing my work, meeting with my supervisor and meeting with my professor to ensure I was progressing and meeting my goals, which meets Outcome 6. The log demonstrates times where the projects were on target and other times where changes were needed. 

Additionally, this project meets Outcome 4: Models critical and creative thinking skills in all areas of his or her professional life. Creating engaging newsletters takes creativity and professionalism. I provided helpful content for the audience while maintaining the voice and branding of the company. I had to focus on great attention to detail to provide a polished, professional newsletter. Proficient cognitive skills were required for editing content for clarity and voice. 

The newsletters are an integral part of the partnership between the company, childcare providers, and families. It enhances communication and offers important resources for both the providers and families, while maintaining the good reputation of Community Services for Children. 

The second major project was to create a training module for ELRC Coaches on using Adobe. In an effort to utilize all the instructional design principles I have learned, I reviewed previous courses and content as well as doing further research on creating an effective learning module. I also had to become familiar with the Learn Upon LMS and SCORM Hero. For the module I created a PowerPoint. I then created screencasts for important parts of the training. I uploaded the PowerPoint to SCORM Hero and added more “slides” where the video content would appear. Once the slideshow was complete, I downloaded the SCORM package to be uploaded to LearnUpon.  Additionally, I have prepared a tip sheet for learners to download. The LearnUpon platform includes segments for quizzes and checks for understanding. I added the assessment questions I used in planning the module as the culminating quiz. I also added the same questions in a different order at the beginning of the module to gauge how much the learners learned after taking the course. The internship ended before I could gather that data, but I will be able to go in and check the results.

The Learning Module project meets Outcome 2: Articulates, applies, and adapts theoretical constructs of effective learning, technology integration, and assessment. Shows understanding of multiple intelligence, learning theories, and learning styles. I incorporated Dual Coding for the PowerPoint presentation and incorporated video for more engagement. Additionally, for visual learners, the Adobe Tips sheet will be a great resource to keep with them when interacting with Adobe. 

The training module  benefits Community Services for Children because it is meeting a need. According to my pre-instructional survey 27% of the learners needed some training with the software required in their daily responsibilities.
