DMET 520 -Selection and Application of Learning Technologies
Integrating technology into curricular planning and instructional design.
Research, problem solving and product development of technological applications.
The Learning Theories book is a desktop publishing document that is a summary of several common learning theories including, Behaviorism, Constructivism, Cognitivism, Dual Coding Theory, and TPACK. In order to organize my thoughts I created a concept map using GitMind. The live link can be viewed here.
This project helped me to learn more deeply about the above mentioned learning theories. We have read about them and learned them, but to teach something and write about it, you have to have a strong understanding of the topic. The concept map portion of the project helped focus and condense the main ideas to be covered in this book.
DMET 530 -Instructional Design for Effective Learning
Selecting, implementing and adapting technology to teaching methodologies, curriculum resources and administrative functions in collaboration with other educators and integrating a variety of software, applications, and learning tools.
Selecting, developing and administering assessments that utilize technological applications and involve multiple indicators of student progress and using technology to maintain records on student achievement.
In this project for Instructional Design for Effective Learning, I created a class module based on Dick and Carey's model of Instructional design. This was a course-long project where I built on each stage. The module consisted of two lessons. The first lesson was on identifying phishing clues in an electronic communication. The second lesson the learners were to apply what they learned an create an animation using PowerPoint.
The Design Document includes the Learning Goals, Domain Classification, Steps and Sequence of the module, Diagram of the steps, Performance Objectives, Assessment, and an overview of the design.
The entire module went well. The only thing I would change would be to create and include an updated instructional video showing the learners how to create an illustration using shapes. The one in the module, while very good, was too old. Updating the video will provide a fresher and more engaging lesson.
This module utilized technology to enhance the lessons in the curriculum by incorporating PowerPoint and an instructional video. The phishing lesson was enhanced by integrating technology and software to build on the learner's digital citizenship skills.
