Story
As you were adventuring, you get sucked into a world split apart into various stages due to the Universe Rupture, a phenomenon which is tearing the multiverse asunder. You've landed in the world of Ancient Blobbylonia where slimes called Blobbies reside. These strange creatures have the ability to combine and become new Blobbies with special powers of transformation. Each combination will prove useful to you as they can turn into various shapes that will help in traversing the lands and find a Universe Rift that will take you back home. Be wary, however; the Great Pharaoh of Glopolis, Isosceles the Conqueror does not tolerate such a strange creature as yourself to roam about his empire unchecked. On top of having to overcome the world's obstacles, you must avoid being caught by Pharaoh Isosceles or you will be imprisoned and studied!
Ideation and Competition
The main inspiration for Super Blobby Fusion was an idea the professor gave me about combining slimes together to make a new slime that was slightly different, like being taller, and then using them to traverse an area. I decided to go the route of having primary colored slimes that can be fused together to create secondary colored slimes with a unique transformation ability depending on the color, allowing the player to put together various ways to overcome the traversal obstacles in the levels and reach the end. In this regard, it is very similar to both Hue by Fiddlesticks Games and PictoMan: Sign Guy Saga by Miles Whitaker because my game also has aspects of color-based puzzles where the player uses color to alter the environment and/or traverse it. That is why both of them are also competition; their similarities.
Slime Rancher is both a source of inspiration (although less so) and competition due to it being a game about collecting different slimes.
deBlob is a game about equipping a color to your character and bouncing around to add back the color of the now grayed out world to any objects you hit. It's less a puzzle and more of causing some mayhem and having a variety of colors populate the world as you play each level. It being very color-focused is also why it serves as potential competition and a possible source of reference.
