Reflective Questions
How do we show that our design ideas were not just guesses and that my/our ideas and each of the proposed design attributes really are based on sound logic and subject-related knowledge?
By reviewing the design ideas through experts and connecting them back to STEM principles
Why does this proposed solution have merit to try?
Because this solution has benefits, not only for covid relief, but also for people who have trouble breathing polluted air
The problem that you choose to solve will certainly require known math, science, and/or engineering concepts. Brainstorm a list of math, science, and/or engineering concepts, formulas, and laws that you anticipate will be needed to solve your team’s problem. Consider applications of mathematics, chemistry, biology, physical science, nanotechnology, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and civil engineering that may be incorporated into your solution. Input from experts may be helpful in the identification of the concepts needed. You will continue to update this section as you research these principles and complete calculations.
Identify and describe the science and engineering concepts you need to investigate.
Science and Engineering Concepts that we need to investigate include stress, project management, and material properties.
Explicitly list and describe each concept you might use; relate back to design specs where possible.
Stress - A measure of forces acting upon an object. There are 6 major forces that stress measures: compression, tension, shear, bending, torsion, and fatigue
Project Management - the process of leading the work of a team to achieve all project goals within the given constraints.
Material Properties - Material properties are physical, chemical, or mechanical components of a specific product that would determine its functionality and maneuverability. This would mean that a product's material properties would specifically define the capabilities of the products in all aspects.
Describe who can help you validate your STEM work. What training or credentials will your experts need to have?
We will need someone who is educated in Engineering principles, such as someone with an engineering degree
Are any special computer programs, technology, or equipment you might use?
We will use RoadRunner, a motion planning library, so that it can follow you around, cleansing the air where you walk
