I was lead student for two sessions at the adult on-site and tele-health clinic on the dates of March 14 and Apri 1, 2024. The clinic address is, Salt Lake Community College Jordan Campus 3491 West 9000 South Health Sciences Building, office 012.
Reflection:
Observing and participating in care provided at the Adult On-Site Clinic has been a wonderful part of time in the OTA program at SLCC. It was helpful to see in person the types of physical dysfunction we were learning about in class. I am so grateful that the clients were willing to allow us to learn alongside them. We learned about total hip replacement surgery and the precautions that go along with it in class and then I was able to really apply that learning with an onsite client. In the telehealth clinic, I was able to get a clear picture of how limitations affect occupations. It’s one thing to hypothesis how they might affect a client and another to have the client tell you. I also just really love people! So, it was meaningful to get to know the clients and hear their stories.
One of the colleges leaning objectives is to think critically and creatively. I was given an opportunity to do this and to see this done many times while participating in the clinic. Our adult telehealth client needed custom adaptive equipment. Thinking critically and creatively was key to what the students and instructors were able to come up with for them.
Through this experience I have gained more confidence in my abilities as a professional and I have gained more empathy for the struggles of others. These things will serve me well in my career as a clinical provider.
