Project Production Journals Week 9

Mia, #7

Tasks Completed

  • Completed Filler Assets = ~2.5 hrs
  • Edited Fan Sound effect/ Cropped title Screen / Credits Text = ~1 hr
  • Hatto Particle Adjustment = ~.25 hrs
  • Meetings = ~1.5 hrs
  • Adjust Sell Presentation = ~1 hr

Total Hours: ~ 6hrs

Positive

Getting a lot done for the build! No Giant problems.

Negative

Some things that have been asked for for a while are still not quite implemented. I/We try to be clear on what is asked of the team as much as possible but some disconnect on communication still appears to be there. Also Sometimes features get pushed without explanation/discussion and that might cause problems.

Upcoming

Finalizing Beta! Possibly Adjusting Cat sprites, as well as discussing animation fixes.

Drew, #7

Tasks Completed

  • .5 hours - sound controller sets music now
  • 1 hours - implemented looping sound effects for fan, vaccuum
  • 1.5 hours - made cat/human go to correct positions
  • 1 hour - implemented battery assets, adjusted interact prompt positions
  • .5 hours - credits screen
  • 2 hour - human animations implemented!

Total Hours: 5.5 hours

Positive

I finally got animations in! I'm happy we can actually visually show what's going on in the game now.

Negative

I wish I'd gotten all those animations fully working, but the human scared animation didn't get in in time unfortunately. It's hooked up, but wasn't working properly in time for the demo.

Upcoming

Animation polish, overall polish

Rush, #7

Tasks Completed

  • Timer, change hue of time symbol to match current medal standing. ~1 hrs.
  • Medals, implement assets, show what player earned at end based on time taken. ~2 hrs.
  • Roomba + Battery implementation. ~2 hrs.
  • Prototype Picture in Picture system to solve off-screen action issue, after trying and bailing on the original idea of pausing all animations until Hatto enters, then freezing Hatto until the queued animations play out. ~7 hrs.

Total Hours: ~12 hrs.

Positive

Personally, I like how the Picture in Picture system turned out. While it's a little wonky right now because someone messed up the speed of the cat animation, I think it portrays useful info in a useless spot on the screen.

Negative

I prototyped an alternative to a current problem because the group's approach wasn't feeling right when trying to implement/test it. However it would have been better to save and show their system to let them make their own decision. But not being able to move Hatto while queued up animations just felt...bizarre and frustrating.

Upcoming

Polish, polish, polish.

Lange, #7

Tasks Completed

  • Team Meeting - 1.0 hour
  • Tidied up Title Screen Menu - 1.0 hour
  • Art Asset Unification Part 2 - 4.0 hours

Total Hours: 6.0 hours

Positive

All, if not most, of the art assets have been unified, which means that they're starting to look like they have some visual cohesion in color and style.

Negative

I tried to implement Cinemachine to add to our camera system, but it seems that Hatto's movement is tied to the current camera system in place. Even if the current camera system were to be deleted in its entirety, Hatto could not move, defeating the entire purpose of Cinemachine. Hatto's movement logic would need to be re-designed to allow for a generic Player Character controller, but we unfortunately do not have time to do so.

In my attempt to unify animation sample rates, a bug has occurred regarding the cat which has affected gameplay. As a result, most of us were in a panic. See below for more.

Upcoming

As always, I plan to work with teammates on both the art side and Unity implementation side. There's a lot going on for both ends, so I need to sit down and coordinate with Rush and Drew to get the bugs and problems fixed in our scene and make everything more organized because the project seems like a mess as of current. It's essentially lots of polish because we need to - otherwise, our project falls apart.

Nazifa, #7

Tasks Completed

  • Scolding animation and scared animation - 8 hours
  • Fixing old animations - 2 hours
  • Making Battery sprites (sprite and icon) - 1.5 hour
  • Making Timer - 30 minutes
  • Made medals for the UI - 1.5 hours

Total Hours:

Positive

Oh boy did I get some stuff done. It was a lot and I feel like I made up for the fact that I didn't do as much as I wanted to last week. Super proud of myself.

Negative

Really no big negatives. It's just I am picky with my animations and finding the right passing out animation for the human getting scared was hard and tedious but we got it.

Upcoming

Fixing up any animations as needed and help with any other UI elements.

James, #7

Tasks Completed

  • Meeting: 1 1/2 hour
  • Drafting scared face: 1 hour
  • Scared face: 1 hour
  • Updating Scared face: 1 hour

Total Hours: 4 1/2 hours

Positive

All of the animations are done. They should be in the repo and all that is left to do is to polish them and any of the assets that need to be touched.

Negative

This week I was really busy with other work. I felt like I didn't contribute much this week and I feel kind of embarrassed about it. I hope my group mates will understand.

Upcoming

Everything and anything that needs to be polished needs to be fixed this week. Any of the little artifacts that need to be cleaned or colors that need to be changed will be changed and updated this week.

Tyler, #7

Tasks Completed

  • Trailer: I really lost track of time on this, but around 7-8 hours.
  • UI changes: 1.5 hours
  • Tutorial: 2 hours

Total Hours: about 11

Positive

The trailer doesn't look completely awful for a draft, but there's almost no audio. UI is 99% finished. Whether the tutorial actually gets completed will determine adding another button to the main menu then no more UI changes after that. The tutorial was going well until a weird bug came up based on how I don't know how the interactable scripts were set up and that you can't actually move past the "challenges"

Negative

The tutorial isn't finished and a lot of the trailer looks pretty bad. This will change this coming week.

Upcoming

Make the trailer not bad and finish the tutorial.
