Elections for the 2028 Contract Action Team (the CAT) Have Been Scheduled for December 2026!!!
The CAT’s primary responsibility is to facilitate conversation with Rank and File members about the contractual needs of the professional groups they have been elected to represent, and to organize and execute any actions related to and in support of negotiation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
The CAT will ensure that all members have access to information about the bargaining process as active negotiations are taking place.
How will the CAT be Elected?
The CAT shall be made up of an equitable representation of building level classroom teachers (Elementary, Middle, and High School classroom teachers) and tenure area members for non-classroom positions. The number of CAT members shall be determined by the process outlined below:
The total number of seats and the proportional representation of CAT seats shall be determined by the ITA Elections Chair based on percentage demographics of the active union membership at the time of the council’s election.
a. Any identified professional group will be guaranteed 1 seat on the CAT if the group’s percentage is too low to be recognized otherwise.
b. To preserve equity of representation, if any level or professional group elects to underrepresent by not filling their allocated seats, those seats will remain vacant. They may not be filled by members of other groups.
To ensure robust representation, no member of the CAT may run for, or be elected as, the representative for two different positions.
a. For example, a high school social worker may run for election as a representative for “high school” or for “social workers”, but not for both.
