EviCase Study - Using Technology Projects to Engage Learners
Artifact Description
This is a presentation and summary of a case study I conducted with a colleague from my California State Fullerton cohort that explored the impact of technology as a means to engage students in a social studies course. The findings were shared in a professional development session where we considered the impact technology can have on learner outcomes.
Implementation
This presentation was shared with my colleagues during a professional learning session where we considered engagement strategies for improving learner outcomes within our programs. We reviewed the case study findings of a project-based approach to a social studies unit where students chose a technology platform to showcase their learning and then placed it on a google site portfolio for others to view. The results were an increase in mastering learning objectives. Additionally, students from the case study completed a survey with more reporting higher engagement than the traditional approach they typically used. This case study was discussed during the professional development session to assist our team in considering this approach as an authentic method for engagement within lessons to boost learning and differentiate learning to equitably support learners.
Impact
The impact of considering this case study during a professional learning session on engaging learners to improve learner outcomes was a collaboration of shared ideas on how to best meet the needs of our learners. We analyzed the research and data and were able to create plans that moved toward higher engagement and equitable access to learning objectives. Utilizing research and data from a case study to plan and collaborate on future goals for learning environments helps me meet indicator 6a as it provides an example of collecting and analyzing student data to guide data-driven decision making that informs learner outcomes and assists in considering purposeful technology integration to engage learners and improve learning outcomes.
Reflection
Conducting case studies to collect and analyze data on learner outcomes is an impactful method of deeply thinking about creating meaningful learning that improves students' ability to engage and authentically connect with learning. Considering case study outcomes helps educators authentically create learning experiences that are tailored to their individual learning environments and promotes equitable access to learning.

Academic Data Dive Infographic
Artifact Description
This is an infographic about quantitative and qualitative data collection I shared with the academic coaching team to support a data discussion during professional development.
Implementation
This infographic has not been shared yet but will be beneficial during our summer professional development where we will dive deep into the statistics of our data collection from the 2021-22 academic year.
Impact
I anticipate the impact of the Academic Data Dive infographic will be that it is used as a resource that assists educators, leaders, and instructional coaches in effectively considering the data they review to guide instruction, evaluate student learning, and create and align with the goal of creating highly-engaging learning opportunities that ensure equitable access to learning objectives for all students.
Reflection
Understanding how qualitative and quantitative data is collected and used supports purposeful goal planning and provides valuable input on learning environments' strengths and areas needing improvement. Collection and evaluation of data is a crucial part of meeting indicator 6b, supporting educators to interpret qualitative and quantitative data to inform their decisions and support individual student learning, and is one that I am working toward by continuing to meet with leadership and colleagues to identify valuable data collection methods.
Overall Reflection
As I reflect on the indicators for being a data-driven decision-maker, I believe I am meeting Indicator 6a by collecting data through a case study I am assisting educators and leaders in securely collecting and analyzing student data to help drive our goal planning. I am working towards indicator 6b, by providing resources that support educators to interpret qualitative and quantitative data to inform their decisions and support individual student learning. I am also working towards indicator 6c, partnering with educators to empower students to use learning data to set their own goals and measure their progress and hope to make headway with this during the next academic year.
