The ISTE standards 1:2 is all about digital citizenship. Researching resources on how to empower, and instill digital citizenship has taught me various things. Allowing students to become empowered is for students to take ownership of their learning. Tools like Trello and Google help students set goals, track progress, and lead their learning. Students can build skills like self-management, organizational skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving, and instill safety and responsibility in students. Resources like Common Sense Education and Google's "Be Internet Awesome" have tools to teach online safety engagingly. Students will learn the skills of navigating the internet, privacy, and ethical technology use. Engaging in hands-on activities like cybersecurity escape rooms allows students to apply their knowledge. Students will go through scenarios like phishing scams, and unreliable links. Students will have real-world practice. In the future, I want to have more hands-on activities in my teaching. I want to utilize my resources and allow students to take ownership of their learning and collaborate to tackle challenges. I want to integrate digital citizenship lessons from Common Sense Education to ensure students are learning how to become digital citizens.
