Patches' can be purchased at the Hurricane Recreation Center front office. Our karate class does not make money off selling the patches. These patches are not required for students to have. They are an optional and easy ways for us instructors to help teach our student's good morals.

With your parents, do a paragraph report on the American Flag and what the flag means to you, and turn it into your instructor.

Learn the components and meaning of physical and mental.

The last blade represents the mental part of life. The three categories are focus, control, and balance.
(Yellow belts, or students who have completed the yin-yang patch)

Make a goal with your parents and spend 6 weeks working to accomplish this goal. This goal can be anything . (i.e., Chores, Grades, etc..)
Complete 10 hours of community service. You may take as much time as you feel you need to complete this. Let your instructor know when you start the process. Either you or a parent need to keep track of your hours.
Obtain a Yellow or Purple belt and assist the instructors with teaching beginner class.
Obtain an Orange or Blue belt and assist the instructors with teaching beginner class.
Obtain a Green or Brown belt and assist the instructors with teaching beginner class.

Have a good attitude throughout class towards your classmates and instructors.

Show that you can follow the instructions given, and encourage the students around you to do the same.
Learn something new you always wanted to know. This could be anything from a piece of history to a technique you want to learn.
Let your instructor know you're trying to get this patch. Tell your instructor when and how you completed it.
Do something you are scared of. This can be something in karate or in your life.

Talk with your instructor about leading a group exercise. Leading a group could include teaching new students a specific technique or counting for the class as we practice different moves.
Demonstrate respect amongst your peers, your instructor, and, most importantly, yourself.
Evaluate how you spend your time. Do you play a lot of video games? How often do you get exercise? Think of balance as an old carriage wheel. If your wheel is uneven, then you're going to have a bumpy ride.

Work with your parents and make a plan to balance out your life and activities. When you have made a plan, show your instructor to receive the patch.
Show that you have self-discipline when you're in class.

When you reach the orange belt, talk with an upper-belt student and learn the nunchaku kata.
When you reach 3rd brown belt, talk with an upper-belt student and learn the sai kata.
When you reach 1st Brown belt, talk with an upper-belt student and learn the bo kata.
