Kata - a system of individual training exercises for practitioners of karate and other martial arts.
Our katas are designed based on real fights that happened to the old instructors in Okinawa. These series of movements are meant to be displayed like a dance that tells the story of the fight. Through this 'dance' of movement, students will display swiftness and strength.
All Kata's below are colored so students know at what belt rank they start learning each kata.
All katas are in this video made by Tatsuo Shimabuku in 1966. The video is old and hard to follow so the katas have been re-videoed by instructors Haley Jones and Cara LaRue.
To get your black belt you will need to make your kata. There are some rules so make sure you talk with your instructor before you begin making your kata
