When implementing Quality Matters standards into your course design at SCC, you should consider using some of the pre-designed templates created by our instructional designers. These are located in Canvas Commons, and they can be filled in and used as is, or they can be modified to match the design of the rest of your course. The templates provide placeholders where instructor- and course-specific information is required, they provide fully designed pages with institutional policies and resources for students, and they provide the specific standard number so that you can see exactly what is met with each element of the template. There is a welcome module available that, when placeholders are completed, will meet 50% of the QM rubric on its own. There is a homepage with links to the welcome module, syllabus, course modules, and students resources page already set up for your convenience. There is also a "How We'll Meet" page available with information for students about how to access Zoom, where to find their course meetings and recordings, and space for faculty to provide their information about meeting expectations and how/when meetings will be conducted each week.
The next thing to check is that all of your course objectives are measurable and written from the learner perspective. If they are, then review your module/chapter objectives to make sure that they are also measurable, written from the learning perspective, and also align to the course objectives to make sure the learner will reach the stated course objectives.
Beyond the objectives, make sure that the course materials, learning activities, assignments, and assessments also align to the module/chapter objectives where they appear and support the learner in meeting those objectives.
If you have done these things, then you have tackled the largest portions of the implementation.
