Program Description:
Join Valita Volkman and Iris Emerick at Blue Lake for yoga and birding! We will start with a mini (30 min.) yoga class led by Valita. The physical focus will be on prepping for the movements often done during birding while the spiritual intention will be on slowing down, being mindful and grounded, and getting attuned to our surroundings. We will be in a primarily flat field with daisies. The class will be suitable for all levels of yoga experience. Participants will leave yoga supplies in their car or the outing leader’s car upon completion.
After yoga, we will go on a relatively short-distanced walk around part of the park to look for birds of prey, songbirds, and more. The walk will include going down to the accessible pier on the lake to look for herons, waterfowl, and swallows. Depending on accessibility needs and interest, we may go into a conifer woodland to look for owls and/or signs of their presence. During the walk, there will also be sprinkles of mindful moments here and there; these will include exercises such as smelling flowers, counting colors, and more!
After birding, Valita will lead another 30 min. yoga class with the physical focus of countering the movements often done during birding. The spiritual intention will be assimilation and gratitude. This will also be suitable to all levels.
