This series features several scenarios in which selection of components is analysed to determine the best outcome. This series lays the ground work for the more complex series to come. This series will not require STK, future series will. By reducing the need for external information, this series is intended to teach the basic tools for selection analysis. Future series will bring in orbital information into our selections - and thus feature using STK.
There is no STK lesson for this series. See the very important Sheets lesson instead.
This lesson is longer than usual, but shows several useful techniques in spreadsheets to analyse selection scenarios. Key points are navigating tables of information, programming equations to reduce user time, and using functions to get advanced results. This video assumes the student is familiar with the Basics of Spreadsheets. Other good videos for beginners are located here: Scroll to "Excel and Calc..."
In this introductory scenario involves planning the best vacation for a travelling family. This is a basic introduction to selections and balancing factors in a mathematical way.
This scenario expands the difficulty in selecting components and adds additional options. This scenario requires working with 'related rates'.
This much more complex scenario features over 500 different solutions. In designing a colony ship to carry humans to Mars many factors must be balanced. This scenario also introduces important spacecraft ideas including heat management and orbital transfers.
