Gishing while interpreting enables you to listen for meaning, stay in control of your process, organize the information and gets you away from the English.
***Ironically, the challenge most people say they have when Gishing is that they want to include more details. Resist that temptation and listen just for the main points.***
1. Deliberately practice the goals you have set for your retaping.
2. The source text will be provided to (at the end of this page) – you will be able to play it as many times as needed. You can practice with it in several ways before you record for your retape. I would encourage you to record each time you practice so you can review it.
3. Have your new goals in mind for the retaping. Remember that these goals are the primary focus of the retaping and you are encouraged to not give attention to other parts of the process. This means that if you are focusing on space, you should focus all your effort on that goal. The rest of the content can be omitted if needed.
4. Retape the text. STAND
5. Make at least 5 comments in your retaped project. Your first comment should say what your goal was for this project. Your last comment should say how successful you feel you were in achieving that goal.
6. Your remaining 3 comments should be about something that supports that argument that you either did or did not achieve the goal. Your instructor will not watch the full retape. They will only jump to the comments. Comment on the three parts you want them to see.
