Become a Resource Professional; My goal for this year is to obtain a position at a reputable institution taking on a role as a Resource Consultant. I will accomplish this by actively looking for job postings and applying weekly on Indeed and directly on companies’ websites. I hope to achieve this goal by September 2021.

Gather Information; For the next one to three years, I will dedicate my efforts to finding the best 20 types of agencies that support children and families with disabilities. Throughout my practice, as a resource consultant, I hope to be able to support families by directing them to organizations and agencies that will best support their child’s development and needs. I can do this by educating myself, via website searches, telephone and in-person inquiries, on the types of agencies and programs available in my community. I will explore their application process, services available and success stories.

Learn American Sign Language; My goal for the next three to five years is to learn American Sign Language (ASL) by taking a night course at a college institution. I have taken a day course of a similar nature before and already know some basic words and the alphabet. I believe that, while working in the field of disability, knowing American Sign Language can be an asset. It will allow me to connect and communicate with clients in their unique language, when and if necessary.

Obtain my Degree; In 2028, I hope to return to school, on a part-time basis, to obtain my Early Childhood Education Degree and possibly continue onto Teachers College to explore further opportunities and career advancement.

Gain Diverse Work Experience; Over the next 10 years, I hope to maximize my overall experience in the childhood education field by pursuing various positions such as a Resource Consultant, Early Childhood Educator and Supervisor/Manager/Director within the childcare industry. This will enable me to gain a better understanding and perspective of these various roles and allow me to be the best I can be at supporting families and children. I will accomplish this goal by applying for such positions and/or pursuing promotions, while continuously seeking opportunities for professional and personal growth.

Open a Childcare Centre; After working for about 10 years with children and families, childcare centres and other institutions, I hope to open up my own childcare centre. This will allow me to realize all my dreams of creating an organization that will provide the optimal type of support for children with disabilities. To make that happen, I hope to maximize my savings, over the years of employment, and apply for and receive government supports. I am also hoping to hire specialized staff focused primarily on successful child development and disability needs.
