Ocean Connect
Welcome to Ocean Connect
Ocean Connect is a pioneering NGO dedicated to marine conservation and environmental stewardship. Based in Grand Gaube, Mauritius, our organization is committed to fostering a sustainable future for our oceans and coastal communities.
At Ocean Connect, we believe in the transformative power of education and empowerment. Our latest initiative aimed at empowering fifteen dedicated women in marine-related professions.
Under the guidance of our president, Khemraj Persand, these women underwent comprehensive training in oyster farming and aquaculture, utilizing cutting-edge scientific methodologies. Our focus was on promoting the health benefits of shellfish while equipping beneficiaries with the necessary tools to establish their own enterprises in this field. By enhancing both the quantity and quality of seafood products, we aimed to make a meaningful contribution to the development of Mauritius' blue economy
Restoring Mangroves for a Sustainable Future
In addition to our commitment to women's empowerment, Ocean Connect is actively engaged in mangrove restoration efforts. Mangroves play a crucial role in coastal ecosystems, providing habitat for diverse marine life and serving as a natural barrier against coastal erosion. Through our mangrove forest planting initiatives, we aim to revitalize these vital ecosystems, promoting biodiversity and resilience in our coastal areas.
At Ocean Connect, we recognize that safeguarding our oceans requires collective action. Whether you're passionate about marine conservation or eager to make a difference in your community, there are many ways to get involved. From volunteering opportunities to educational programs and advocacy campaigns, we invite you to join us in our mission to protect and preserve our marine environment for generations to come.
Thanks to the support of UNDP, Ocean Connect has successfully trained numerous women in oyster farming techniques. Armed with this newfound knowledge and skills, these women are now empowered to embark on their own oyster farming ventures, thus laying the foundation for the establishment of small-scale businesses. Through this initiative, Ocean Connect aims to not only promote sustainable practices in marine conservation but also to foster economic empowerment among women in coastal communities.
Together, we can make a positive impact on our oceans and create a more sustainable future for all. Join Ocean Connect today and be a part of the solution.
