The Illinois Section is one of the oldest chapters of the American Association of Physics Teachers! According to a 1962 report in the American Journal of Physics, the section was founded in 1937 and had its first meeting in Rockford, IL. Below is an excerpt from the AJP report:

Thanks to research done by Marianna Ruggerio, we know a bit more about Dr. A. Frances Johnson. Marianna found an article written about a historic house that Dr. Johnson lived in for several decades, as well as a tribute written by the Rockford College archivist and Dr. Johnson's obituary.
