This a joint meeting of the Illinois Science Teachers Association (ISTA), the Illinois Section of the American Association of Physics Teachers (ISAAPT), the Chicago Section of the American Association of Physics Teachers (CSAAPT), the Illinois Association of Chemistry Teachers (IACT), the Illinois Association of Biology Teachers (IABT), and the Environmental Education Association of Illinois (EEAI).


For the first time ever, the science teacher organizations in Illinois are meeting together to provide pre-K to college level educators with professional development. Presenters will include teachers, teacher-trainers, scientists, agency and organizational representatives, and vendors.


Thursday, Oct. 27

12:00-8:00 pm. Registration, South Entrance Reception Desk.

5:00-8:00 pm. Reception, food, refreshments, and exhibits, Exhibit Room South. Informal meetings with scientists, science education leaders, and organizational representatives.

6:00-7:00 pm. "Power Hour", Exhibit Hall. Meet honored guests.

8:00 pm, ISAAPT Council meeting, Samuel Tinley Room.


Friday, Oct. 28

7:00 am-4:30 pm. Registration, South Entrance Reception Desk.

7:30 am-noon and 1:15-4:00 pm. Exhibits by vendors and organizations.

7:30-11:50 pm. Educational presentations ranging in length from 5 minutes to three hours including several workshops. There are about 90 presentations scheduled for Friday morning in 20 rooms.

12:00-1:15 pm. Presidents’ Luncheon, Exhibit North and West Rooms. Awards recognition and keynote speaker, Brady Barr, Moderator NGS-TV, "Dangerous Encounters".

2:00-4:00 pm. Educational presentations ranging in length from 15 minutes to 50 minutes. There are 44 presentations scheduled for Friday afternoon in 20 rooms.

4:00-5:30 pm. The Atom Smashers (2008, 54 min), South Pavilion 2. This film follows a group of Fermilab physicists as they race to find the Higgs boson, a yet-undiscovered subatomic particle that could explain how matter--and therefore life--can exist. A screening of the film will be followed by a question and answer session with the filmmakers, Clayton Brown and Monica Ross.

5:30 pm. ISAAPT business meeting, South Pavilion 2.

7:00-10:00 pm. Gala Evening at the Museum of Science and Industry. A ticket is required ($50). It includes entry, food, fun, refreshments, and transportation (or parking).

6:00-6:30 pm, buses leave for the Museum.

9:15-10:00 pm, buses leave for Tinley Park.


Saturday, Oct. 29

7:00-9:00 am. Continental Breakfast, South Pavilion Room

8:30 am-noon. Educational presentations ranging in length from 5 minutes to three hours including several workshops. There are 36 presentations scheduled for Saturday morning in 16 rooms.

8:45-9:00 am. Transportation loading for field trips, Conference Center South Entrance

9:00 am-12:00 pm. Field Trips. Museum of Science and Industry - WOW or Crime Lab, Adler Planetarium, The Morton Arboretum, ExxonMobil Refinery


Location

The Tinley Park Conference Center is located about 20 miles East of Joliet at the intersection of I-80 and IL 43 (Harlem Ave.) It offers free parking, free WiFi, easy roll-in ground floor setup, and a vendor-friendly management. It is accessible from all directions by interstate highways, and is 16 miles south of Midway Airport.
