Validated Interventions (e.g., Tier 2 Standard Intervention protocols) form the foundation for intensifying Literacy Instruction. It is very important that teams begin the DBI process by identifying the "best match" intervention for the individual student based on their diagnostic data and instructional goals. In order to identify the "best match" teams determine diagnostic data to collect, administer those measures, and use the data obtained to inventory the student's strengths and needs. They then identify evidence-based interventions that align with the students strengths and needs, and rate each intervention according to the Taxonomy of Intervention Intensity (Fuchs, Fuchs, & Malone, 2017). They compare ratings and identify the "Best Match." When, the "Best Match" Intervention has been selected, teams use obtain necessary training and materials to implement, formulate initial adjustments, and develop an individualized intensive intervention plan.
Based on the data you collected during the student selection process, determine if additional diagnostic data is required. Use the form to identify data to collect. Many of the assessments referenced on the form are linked below.

Use the diagnostic data you collect and any additional data sources to complete the student Strengths and Needs Inventory. If you are collecting diagnostic data to plan for intervention modification (after initial plan development), you may want to update the student's original form with new information you collect during the diagnostic process.
Reading Data can be constrained or enhanced by student behavior, motivation, and executive function. If behavioral concerns arise during the set-up or implementation phases of DBI, consider collecting additional behavior diagnostic data. Use the form to determine what data to collect.
