Once an Individualized Intensive Intervention Plan is developed, it is important to implement the plan with fidelity. Collecting fidelity data on implementation can help your team identify and fix barriers to implementation, improve intervention quality, and support instructional planning. There are several types of fidelity to consider:
Dosage: The student receives the planned amount of intervention support; (e.g. minutes per day, days per week, student/teacher ratio, opportunities to respond and receive corrective feedback)
Adherence: Each essential lesson component (and instructional adaptation) is delivered as planned
Quality: The instructor is prepared and delivers the intervention with few unnecessary pauses; the instructor incorporates proactive behavior management techniques (e.g., establish/teach expectations, 4:1 ratio of positive to corrective feedback, etc.); the instructor has all necessary materials and training
Engagement: The student meets all behavioral expectations, completes work, and interacts appropriately with other group members and the instructor
Receipt: Student attends all sessions and completes tasks/activities
Interventionist should complete daily
Sample of record for 5 days of implementation
A member of the MDT (not the interventionist) should observe an intervention session at least once per evaluation cycle. The observers data should be aggregated with data from implementation records. When gaps in fidelity occur, the team may decide to conduct observations more frequently.
