This aspect of the text requires you to create your own piece of fiction. You will have a choice of creating either a piece of descriptive writing or a narrative. Each option comes with its own requirements, but essentially, the examiner is going to be looking at your ability to make choices with language in order to acheive specifc effects. For instance, can you use visual imagery to shock your reader? Can you use figurative language to make a moment more touching?
Descriptive writing focuses on vividly portraying a person, place, thing, or event so that the reader can picture the scenario in their mind. The key is to use detailed observations and transform them into rich, immersive descriptions using metaphors, similes, and adjectives.
On the other hand, narrative writing tells a story with a beginning, middle, and end. It requires the development of characters, a setting, a plot, and a conflict. In narratives, your choice of words can move the story forward and guide the reader through the events you describe.
