This section of the text is based on Text C, which is the same text that you will use for your extended reading response, question 3.
There are three parts to this section of the exam.
The first part tests your vocabulary knowledge.
The second part tests your ability to understand the content of the text.
The third part tests your ability to understand how writers use language to achieve an effect.
Look through these slides to understand the requirements of the first part of Writer's Effect. You'll notice that this part is similar to the vocabulary part of the reading comprehension section of the exam, only it's a little more robust.
Question 2a gives you synonyms, and you have to find the correct word in the text that correlates with those synonyms.
The first question of this part of the text requires you to analyse a single image from the text. You can think of this as doing a single piece of Level One analysis. Look through these slides to see an example of a student answering this question and meeting the required criteria to varying degrees.
