Style
It has a sober, fluid and concise style. His use of language is clear and precise, while he regards current language as "ugly and imprecise" and "full of vicious". He was very critical of this decline in language.
To combat this decline, Orwell proposed six rules:
1.- Never use a metaphor, simile or any other type of rhetorical figure that is usually seen in print.
2.- Never a long word if you can use a short one.
3.- If it is possible to delete a word, always do it.
4.- Never use the passive voice where the active voice can be used.
5.- Never use a foreign touch, a scientific term, or a slang word where an equivalent of everyday English can be used.
6.- Always skip any of these rules before saying something outrageous.
His work represents a lucid defense of democracy and public liberties against colonialism and totalitarianism.
