Welcome to Lesson 2.
Knowing how to search for jobs; paid or voluntary, is crucial to keeping yourself motivated (remember this word from Lesson 1?). Let's find out the different ways to look for what is out there!
You'll probably be a whizz at using the Internet. But were you aware of the huge number of job sites you can search?
Let's try a pretty standard site: Job Centre Online
Go to the following link: Find a job - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
Search for a simple term like 'cleaner' or 'shop' or 'carer'. I know these are probably not your dream job. But this is just for practice!
Type in your town, city or somewhere you can travel to nearby.
Look through the list of jobs and click on one.
For now, just read the job description. Do any words come up that you don't know?
This used to be the go-to way for finding jobs before the internet. However, local newspapers often still have adverts in them for local work near the back.
If you can, head out to the local shop and pick up a copy of your local paper OR use a search engine to find the website and jobs.
Now we're talking! A practical activity outside.
If you can travel independently great. If not, ask your supporter when you can head into town for this activity.
The Great Job Hunt! Have a walk around your local town and be aware of shop windows. Can you spot any job adverts?
Take a picture with your phone OR head inside and ask for more details to build your confidence up!
If your town has a Job Centre, they might have some adverts in the window to look at.
