Watch the video on the left, or have a look at the pictures below:
This activity is based on you already having an account.
Go to https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/editor/
You will see the main 'edit' board.
The top right one with the big cat is your story or app
The middle is where you will put all the 'pieces' together.
At the bottom right is a small picture of the cat.
Click the rubbish bin to delete it.
Now click the little blue icon with the cat in the bottom right
Choose the magnifying glass to search.
Later on you can choose other options to create your own sprites/images or download more!
Can you see lots of pictures?
Choose the 'Letters' category
Select the first letter of your name.
In this programme, each picture is called a 'SPRITE'
The letter will now appear in your story board on the right!
On the left is a selection of colours. These are different events to make your story come alive!
Select 'Events' and find 'When this sprite clicked'. Drag this into the big white space in the middle
We now need to give an instruction.
Find the purple coloured events called 'Looks' and find 'Change Colour effect by 25'
Drag it and click it into place under the yellow event from before.
We've put two pieces together.
Above the display on the right is a green flag and a red stop.
Click the green flag to start your story up.
Click on your letter. What happens?
You put two pieces together. You told the programme that when the letter (or sprite) was clicked, it would change the colour of it by 25%.
Try repeating the above to make your full name appear.
Can you remember how to make it animate?
Congratulations! You've done your very first piece of animation programming :-)
