Cultivating a Culture for SUCCESS
In any classroom culture and environment play a key role in student learning. It is imperative to establish an environment where, trust is present, safety in thought and voice is nurtured, and all members (teachers and students alike) hold themselves accountable to the greater purpose and can intentionally add value, each and every day.
Allison Zmuda and Bena Kallick, co-authors of Student at the Center and Personalized Learning & Habits of Mind believe:
“Teachers, as significantly as students, need to be in a culture that attends to the same psycho-social needs:
Sense of belonging to a community that offers camaraderie, care and an ethic of excellence in which all members are accountable to one another for the quality of the work they do.
Foster a growth mindset in which they can experiment with new ideas without the fear of premature evaluation.
Better control over regulating and monitoring their own work as they continue to develop their self-efficacy.
Be trusted as innovative, entrepreneurial, and creative individuals who collectively make a significant contribution to society.” – Kallick and Zmuda (2017)”
