Globally Competent

Globally Competent Teachers and Students

Expand Local Filter Bubble

For this project to provide authentic learning experiences organically we worked with people from various backgrounds, locations, and occupations to expand our local filter bubble in how we see/understand/process the world.

Note from Stanley Center

The Stanley Center for Peace and Security has a long history of building global competence through outreach in our local community. The center was started in 1956 by C. Maxwell and Elizabeth M. Stanley who shared a deep interest in global peace and security. The Stanley Center partners with people, organizations, and the greater global community to drive policy progress in three issue areas—mitigating climate change, avoiding the use of nuclear weapons, and preventing mass violence and atrocities. Since the early 1970s, the Center has also been involved in local outreach to the Muscatine and greater eastern Iowa communities to promote and strengthen global education and foster global awareness and understanding. Common threads of our Global Education program include building knowledge of other cultures, learning to understand other perspectives, communicating new information, and taking action to make the world a more just and sustainable place. We believe that these foundations of global learning are critical to preparing youth and adults for a peaceful, inclusive, and sustainable future.
