This is also due to China's rapid urbanization, economic development where more women have entered the work force, and social changes that led to later marriages and child bearing.
China is at Stage 3 of the Epidemiological Transition Model. This is due to the fact that China experienced a shift to chronic diseases. Another reason for China being at Stage 3 is that it has more of an aging population now, where the government has made more of an effort on infectious disease control.
