Since the 1990's, China has entered an emmigration period where millions of people have emmigrated abroad to other countries such as the United States and Canada. This has been for many reasons such as education, economic opportunities, political and social factors in China at the time, and the new ease of travel and immigration policies in the last few decades have influenced and caused many people from China to leave. The MPI's article "China's Rapid Development Has Transformed its Migration Trends" states, "China experienced an “emigration craze” after the 1990s, during which millions of people moved abroad. An estimated 10.5 million Chinese citizens lived abroad as of 2020, according to United Nations estimates."
