“A bruised reed He will not break, and a smoldering wick He will not snuff out.”
— Isaiah 42:3
Built upon the visual language of contemporary white-noise imagery, this work extends into an inward landscape of contemplation. The sounds of rain and fire intersect within silence, becoming symbols of both healing and struggle. The solitary bonfire and the faint light from a distant ruined church echo one another—like a soul being called from the darkness of life’s wilderness.
What I seek is not the glory of illumination, but the posture held amid the storm—the existence that chooses to keep faith within uncertainty and chaos. The fire signifies the soul that continues to burn; the ruins embody the conviction that brokenness does not mean the end. These images recall the spiritual resilience in Caspar David Friedrich’s paintings of ruins—structures shattered, yet standing firm in the wind.
The installation is permeated with metaphors of faith: the boat, the well, the wooden cross, and the mirror all point toward memory, redemption, and self-reflection. The looping flame constructs a sense of eternal time, inviting the viewer to face their own fragility and longing in silence.
That flame is both the light within ruin and the imprint of an undying soul—it offers no answer, but silently responds to all who still seek the light.
