1. Propagation by Stem Cuttings (Most Effective)
When to Take Cuttings:
Best in early rainy season (May–July) when humidity aids rooting.
Choose healthy, semi-hardwood stems (not too young or too old).
Steps:
Cut: Take 6–8 inch cuttings from a mature plant, just below a leaf node.
Prep: Remove lower leaves, keeping 2–4 leaves at the top.
Rooting Hormone (Optional): Dip in organic rooting aids like:
Aloe vera gel (natural rooting stimulant).
Honey water (1 tsp honey in 1 cup water – antifungal and promotes rooting).
Plant:
Soil method: Insert cuttings into a mix of coconut coir + compost + perlite (well-draining).
Water method: Place in a glass of water (change water every 3 days until roots appear, then transplant).
Care:
Keep in bright, indirect light and high humidity (cover with a plastic bag to create a mini greenhouse).
Roots should develop in 3–6 weeks.
Ideal for low-maintenance rooting while attached to the parent plant.
Steps:
Select a Flexible Stem: Bend a healthy, long stem to the ground.
Wound the Stem: Gently scrape a small section of bark where it touches the soil.
Bury the Wounded Part: Secure it with a stone or wire, leaving the tip exposed.
Wait: Roots will form in 4–8 weeks. Once rooted, cut from the parent plant and transplant.
Note: Jasmine seeds are rare (most varieties are propagated vegetatively).
If you have seeds:
Soak seeds in lukewarm water for 24 hours.
Plant in seed-starting mix (keep moist and warm).
Germination can take 1–2 months.
Watering: Keep soil consistently moist (not soggy). Use rainwater or filtered water to avoid chlorine.
Fertilizer: After 1 month, feed with compost tea or diluted fish emulsion.
Pest Control: Spray with neem oil weekly to prevent infestations.
Preserves the plant’s natural resilience.
Avoids introducing synthetic chemicals into your garden ecosystem.
Yellowing leaves: Overwatering or poor drainage (add sand to soil).
No roots: Try cuttings in warmer, more humid conditions.
Jasmine propagated organically will thrive in Hua Hin’s climate and fill your garden with fragrance!
