I want to acknowledge that the place where I live, work, play, and learn is on the shared, unceded traditional territory of the Katzie, Semiahmoo, Kwantlen, and other Coast Salish Peoples
I moved to Canada in 2016. I work as an Education Assistant (IESW) with the Surrey Schools District. With an international teacher background, I feel that my knowledge of indigenous culture is limited. I consider myself a learner, and my first step towards integrating indigenous perspectives and culture into my teaching is to educate myself further. I believe that by respecting each other, we can create a safe and inclusive environment that honors indigenous principles of learning and promotes holistic development. From this course, I anticipate delving into the ways to incorporate a multicultural perspective, as well as approaches to integrate British Columbian and Canadian Indigenous contexts and content into classroom learning.
