If one of our writing tutors suspects that a student they’re working with has engaged in academic dishonesty, we will tell that student that we suspect their work is not their own. We will also try to determine the reasons why the student took this step so that we can help them in avoiding academic dishonesty in the future.

Our next step in these situations will be to work with the student to correct the problem, even if that means beginning the assignment from scratch. We will help them work on properly citing source material, as well as on the skills of idea development, paraphrase, and summary. When necessary, we will also suggest that they ask their professors for help catching up in any areas where they feel lost.
