Origin Date: November 10, 1775
Technically, the Marine Corps were founded twice, once in 1775 and again in 1798. On Nov. 10, 1775, the Continental Congress established two Battalions of Marines as landing forces for the recently formed Continental Navy. On July 11, 1798, President John Adams signed into law a congressional act which created (or re-created) the United States Marine Corps. The re-established force served in addition to the Army and Navy.
