1990-1991
Cause(s):
The United Nations (UN) had ordered a ceasefire in 1988 which ended the Iran-Iraq War. However, following the war, the two countries did not negotiate an official peace treaty. This led to the Iraqi leader, Saddam Hussein, making a speech in which he accused the neighboring country of Kuwait of siphoning crude oil from Iraq. This led to Hussein leading an invasion into Kuwait, and the UN quickly condemning this action.
The U.S. along with other allied forces began sending troops to prob Kuwait, as well as other Arab nations, from a possible Iraqi attack.
The Persian Gulf War officially started when on November 29, 1990, the U.N. authorized the use of necessary force against Iraq if they didn’t withdraw from Kuwait
End:
On February 28, 1991, U.S. President George Bush ordered a ceasefire, ending the war
147 U.S. soldiers were killed
