Emma is Albert Flatau's stepmother.  Emma Quade was 24 years old when she married Theodore Flatau in 1899.  A year previous to their marriage, Theodore, age 34,  had lost his wife of thirteen years and was parenting seven children between the ages of nine and one.  Albert was the one-year-old.  Theodore had also lost his oldest daughter, Martha, age thirteen when his wife and daughter were taken by Typhoid Fever in 1898.  

Emma and Theodore were married for thirty-one years and had five children together.  Emma lived another thirty-two years after Theodore passed away.
