Claude H. Rowbotham (1864-1949) was born in London and latterly moved to Wallingford. A son of an artistic family he became famous for inventing a single plate coloured etching process, which he used with good effect to record topographical scenes throughout the country. Proficient in oils, water colour and etching he wintered in Falmouth in later life for health reasons.
