The Department of History, Vaze College (Autonomous) was established in 1984. The Department is committed to building an understanding of local, regional, national and international events that shaped the past to view the present objectively and the future with a vision.
The department is devoted to engaging with student-centric teaching methods and activities including role play, simulation, annual excursions, photo exhibitions, student paper presentation competitions in addition to debates, discussions and assignments. Students are encouraged to use ICT to the fullest and have created historical magazines, desk and wall calendars as well as Facebook pages of historical characters. Students are also motivated to use social media platforms to promote events of the department.
Chitrashala, an Annual Photo-exhibition exhibiting photographs of yearly excursions and local history, Itihas-e-Vaze, our Alumni Association; a yearly student seminar, Rachnatmak Manch; Paramarsh, the yearly Career Counselling Workshop by our Alumni and Itihaas Milaap, our Parent-Teacher-Student meet are unique features of the Department of History.
The Department has a PhD centre and organizes a 30-hour Certificate Course in Research Methodology on a yearly basis. The Department also offers consultancy in Research Methodology to the College of Naval Warfare.
Faculty of the Department of History have distinct areas of specializations and are constantly updating their knowledge in their quest for excellence. Yearly Seminars and Conferences at various levels with invited Resource Persons are organized for the teaching faculty. The Department of History also has collaborative engagements with other colleges for guest lectures and workshops.
