Interactive Session
The History Department of KET's V.G. Vaze College (Autonomous) organised an interactive session named "Itihas Milap" which was scheduled for the TYBA History batch 2021-22. A group of students from 2020-21 batch shared their experiences. The current batch came with some interesting questions and every single student from the previous batch tried to address them. They shared their experiences about how challenging yet enjoying online studies were. From creating lecture links to making posters to attending webinars and so on. They even guided the current batch regarding how to plan a schedule for studying, how to do assignments and how to face the difficulties of online classes.
At the end they made the current batch realise that how time management is important and offered them help incase needed. They particularly stressed on why togetherness is important to have a successful year.
National Workshop on
The Departments of History and BVoc Tourism & Hospitality conducted a national Level workshop on Bastille day virtually due to COVID-19 Pandemic .It was a One Day Celebration held on the 14th July, 2021 from 11 am onwards. A brief Introduction about Bastille Day celebration was given by Vice Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Preeta Nitesh. Deep Sukdhare and Tarang Keni from TYBvoc presented the regions of France whereas Mana Hingwala and Viraj Utekar presented about the Culture of France. Our First Resource person Diya Shelke shared about her visit to France, and about the life in France. With the help of technology, our audience visited one of the beautiful monument in France virtually. Later, Aliya Abreu shared about the culture of France and her experience with the French people. In the next session , A Tête a` Tête was organized with Shalika Kunwar wherein she was asked questions related to various topics about the society and culture of France. Shalika virtually connected with the audience from Nice, France. Later, Cora Abreu presented about the scope of French language and taught few basic greetings in French. Nayonika Suvarna, a fashion designer by profession gave a glimpse of the evolution of French Fashion through her presentation. A Live Demonstration of making French Pastry was conducted by Chef Gunjan Vaidya Madan.
Guest Lecture on
The History Department of K.E.T's V.G. Vaze College (Autonomous) organised a Guest lecture for the TYBA History Batch 2021- 22 on “Understanding Political Geography” on 17th July 2021 from 9:00 am to 9:48 am on Microsoft Teams. The Guest Speaker was Mrs. Shirisha Gupte, Assistant professor in EVS at K.E.T's V. G. Vaze College. The lecture was attended by TYBA History and Political Science students and 3 Faculty members, Prof. (Dr.) Preeta Nilesh, Vice Principal and Head, Department of History, Dr. Satwant Balse, Co-ordinator of BVoc and Ms. Shilpa Suryawanshi, Head, Department of Political Science.
The Guest Speaker, Mrs. Shirisha Gupte, having a teaching experience of 27 years, completed her Post Graduation in Geography with specialisation in Environment and Ocean studies. The session was very interactive and students participated enthusiastically. In the beginning Mrs. Shirisha Mam gave the introduction of maps and made us realise how useful and important they are in the studies of History and Political Science. She made the lecture more interesting and fun with the use of the PowerPoint Presentation. Further she explained the geographical factors in war. And the way Physical Geography played a role in isolating groups of people which lead to national strengths and often to international hostility. Later, she explained to us the geography of Europe, geographical facts related to it, the Northern, Southern, Eastern and Western Boundaries. Mrs. Shirisha Mam even shared with us the pdf of the maps of Europe.

Guest Lecture on
The History Department of K.E.T’s V.G. Vaze College (Autonomous) organised a Guest Lecture on “Apartheid” on 31st July 2021 from 9:00 am to 10:30 am on Google Meet. The Guest Speaker was Ms. Manisha Saindane, Assistant professor of History at Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Mumbai. The lecture was attended by SYBA, TYBA History and Political Science students and 6 Faculty members, Prof. (Dr.) Preeta Nilesh Vice Principal and Head, Department of History, Dr. Satwant Balse Co-ordinator of BVoc, Harshana Nikam Assistant Professor of History, Ms. Shilpa Suryawanshi Head, Department of Political Science, Vaishali Dhammapathee HOD, Department of Economics, Degree College and Vishakha Patil Assistant Teacher of Political Science.
The event started with the introduction of the Guest Speaker. The Guest Speaker, Ms. Manisha Saindane has completed her M.A. in History and S.E.T. She has her M.Phil. degree in Indo Burma relations and in India during Nehru Era. She is a PhD candidate in diaspora studies. Her area of specialisation is Modern History. She has completed a certificate course in manuscriptology in Modi script. She has published many research papers including "Bombay en route Parel in a bi-annual journal, "In search of knowledge." In addition to the research papers she has even presented several paper presentations one of which is titled as 'Self Help Group: A tool for psychological empowerment of women' in February 2011. The resource person Ms. Manisha Saindane reflected her profound knowledge on the topic. She made the lecture very interesting and enthralling with the use of the PowerPoint Presentation. She explained the Apartheid Laws and how it affected the Blacks in South Africa. The domination of the Whites made their life miserable. People were forcibly removed from their homes and deposited in the so-called homelands. Furthermore, topics like African National Congress, Sharpeville Massacre, Protests at Soweto and Protests from outside South Africa were explained. Later on, the Namibia gained independence and gradually every nation started becoming independent. This resulted in the Black Majority Rule. Soon, the Apartheid came to an end with the abolition of Pass Laws, and beginning of mixed racial marriages. The Guest Lecture came to an end with the Questionnaire.
Guest Lecture on
On 30th July 2021, a guest lecture on “Urban disaster and Social Justice: A Case study of Mumbai floods” had been jointly organized in V.G. Vaze College by The Department of Sociology and Department of History. The resource person for this lecture was a well informed person, Prof. D. Parthasarathy from Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Bombay. The lecture was conducted on Microsoft Teams, an online platform. Respected Principal of Vaze College Dr. B.B. Sharma, Vice Principal Dean of Arts and Head Department of History Prof. Dr. Preeta Nilesh, Head Department of Sociology Ms. Deepa Shirsat, teachers and students were a part of this guest lecture.
The lecture began at 11am on Microsoft Teams with a warm welcome of Prof. D. Parthasarathy delivered by our respected Principal, Vice Principal and Head, Dept. of Sociology. The reason for occurrence of floods in urban areas, the techniques of rescuing people from floods, the precautions taken by the government and people before floods was well explained by Parthasarathy sir. He also shed light on the practices of social injustice such as inequality, malpractices with women, discrimination based on caste, class and religion conducted by the departments responsible for creating peace, harmony and Social Justice in the society. How the topography is related to the occurrence of floods was well elaborated by sir. Also deforestation affects the environment negatively resulting in floods was well explained by sir.
Followed by such an informative lecture, all the participants were allowed to freely share their opinions and ask any questions related to the issue. At the end of the lecture question and answer platform was set up by the team where the participants could either raise their hands and ask the question or could type it in the chat box. After the question and answer session a small vote of thanks was delivered by a representative student. A feedback form was filled by the participants sharing their experience of this lecture.
Guest Lecture on
The Dept. organized an interactive guest lecture named “Internet Sources: E-Resources” on August 5, 2021. This guest lecture was organized to provide more insights on the available internet sources and their accessibility. The resource person for the guest lecture was Mr. Paritosh Pawar, Librarian, Vaze College (Autonomous)
The speaker initiated the talk with the introduction on internet sources. He told about the actual depth of the internet which is rare to access. He gave general tips on how to research online which were helpful for a researcher.
Further, Mr. Pawar explained about the Internet sources, their types, formats available in online sources. He also explained about the search engines and the options available in search engines different from google. He also gave extensive information on the online sources available for students and researchers. Lastly, he gave a demo ‘how to use the online book available in the college e-library’
This session was very interactive as well as informative at the same time.
Guest Lecture on
The Dept. organized an interactive guest lecture on “Anchoring the Vision: Contribution of Jijamata and Dadoji Kondadev in the formative years of Swarajya.” on August 6, 2021. This guest lecture was organized to provide more insight into the contribution of Jijamata and Dadoji Kondadev in the formative years of Hindavi Swarajya. The resource person for the guest lecture was Ms. Arpita Joshi, Asst. Professor, Department of B.Voc, Vaze College (Autonomous)
The guest lecture began at 11:30 am with a brief introduction of the resource person which was done by one of the student volunteers, Viraj Utekar. The speaker initiated the talk with the background and the conditions at the time of birth of Shivaji Maharaj. She narrated and explained several incidents like the confinement of Jijabai, Shahaji's visit to Adil Shah’s court, and Jijabai’s transfer to the Pune area, etc. She explained the character of Jijabai, her personality, her impact on the life of Shivaji Maharaj and how the idea of Swarajya was implanted in the young mind of Shivaji.
Further, she explained the role of Dadoji Kondadev during this stage of Shivaji’s life and how he transformed the initial jagir of Pune and Supe into a prosperous town, and how he molded the young Shivaji into a great warrior and leader.
Two Day National Web Conference on
COLLABORATIVE LECTURE SERIES on
The Department organized an Image Identification Quiz on 'The Life and Times of the Mahatma' to celebrate 152nd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. It was conducted through Google Forms and it was live from October 02nd, 2021 to October 03rd, 2021. It received 400 responses and a very favourable feedback from the participants.
The Department of History of K.E.T.'s V.G. Vaze College (Autonomous) organized an interactive Inter - Collegiate Webinar named "Connecting Family: Heirlooms and their significance" on November 14, 2021 from 11 AM TO 2:30 PM. There were participants from various colleges and also from the host college. Students and Teachers presented their heirloom object with great enthusiasm and each student and teacher had different objects which were categorized into various categories like jewelry and decorative arts, icons of faith ,period pieces and antiquity furnishing . They shared information about the article which included the age, the structure, the material, the preservation of the article, etc. The most beautiful part of the Webinar was seeing how each article had a different kind of meaning in the presenters life. At the end, 5 winners were chosen by the judges from the students category followed by a group photograph of all the participants and winners with the faculty members of the host college and other colleges.

The Department of History and Women’s Development Cell of K.E.T.'s V. G. Vaze College (Autonomous) organized a guest lecture on “Savitribai Phule: Mata of the Downtrodden” on January 03rd, 2021 from 4 pm to 6 pm on the Microsoft Teams platform. The Resource Person was Dr. Ajaykumar Lokhande, Assistant Professor, Department of History, DPSM’s K. V. Pendharkar College (Autonomous), Dombivli. The lecture was attended by students and Faculty members like Prof. (Dr.) Preeta Nilesh, I/C Principal and Head, Department of History, Dr. Satwant Balse, Co- ordinator of BVoc Ms. Harshana Nikam, Assistant Professor, Ms. Akshata Shenoy, Assistant Professor, Department of History and Dr. Neeta Mehta, Head, Department of Psychology and senior member of the WDC.
Dr. Ajaykumar Lokhande was introduced by Dr. Balse. Sir explained the achievements and struggles of the life of Savitribai Phule. The session was very interesting and received great feedback by the attendees. The event was attended by 85 participants.
Lastly, the vote of thanks was given by Dr. Neeta Mehta, Dean of Quality, Chairperson, IQAC and Head, Department of Psychology.
Rachnatmak Manch (Students’ Seminar and Paper Presentation Competition) on
Rachnatmak Manch is an annual activity of the Dept of History which aims to provide a platform for the students to present their research papers. This year the theme of the Students’ Seminar and Paper Presentation Competition was ‘Women in India, 1947-2000: Strength, Contributions and Influence’ and it was organised as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav Initiative of the GOI as well as the International Women’s Week Celebrations of the college. The students of various colleges and the host college presented papers on an array of topics ranging from the contribution of women in art, literature, science and technology to defence, mountaineering, sports, etc. in the Post-Independent India. The event was held at the Smt. Radhabai Vaze Auditorium, Vaze College (Autonomous) on 11th March, 2022 from 10 am onwards.

Educational Visit to the
The Dept. organised an educational visit to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, Mumbai on 5th April, 2022 at 10:30 am for the students of TYBA History. The dept also availed the guided tour provided by the museum. The visit proved helpful for the students to gain more insights for their Museology, Archaeology, Ancient India and Medieval India papers.
