The Department organized an Online Essay Competition on the topic ‘Gossip,
Humour and Rumours: The Covid-19 Pandemic and Lockdown’ on May 10 th , 2020.
We had 167 entries, of which 2 winners were selected from the school level
students, 2 were selected from the college level students, 1 winner was selected
from the professional category and 2 winners from others. The registered entries
were screened by the department and the selected essays were judged by a panel
of external judges.
Online PPT Competition on
The Department organized an Online PPT Competition on the topic ‘Epidemics & Pandemics and Lifestyle Changes: Fashion and Food.’, which was announced on May 10th, 2020. We received 323 entries which were screened by a panel of external judges. 6 semifinalists were selected and they were given an opportunity to present their PPT at the Online PPT Presentation Competition organised by the Department on June 6th, 2020. The Online PPT Presentation Competition took place on the Zoom platform. The event was judged by Dr. Louiza Rodrigues (Ruia College,Autonomous) and Dr. Rita Bhambi (Khalsa College Autonomous). 3 winners were selected from the semifinalists and were awarded merit certificates.
International Webinar on
The Department organized an International Webinar on the topic ‘Epidemics and Pandemics: Challenges of the Past and Present.’ on May 16th, 2020. We had on board 3 eminent speakers who are an expert in their fields. Dr. Mridula Ramanna is a Medical Historian who spoke on the challenges faced by the Colonial Bombay during the plague, smallpox and cholera outbreak. She explained how epidemics and pandemics were dealt with in the past. Dr. Ramesh Nikam, former Chief Health Officer of NMMC, spoke about the ground realities of dealing with the epidemics and pandemics from the medical perspective. Dr. Anu Menon was going to talk about the the challenges faced by the front line medical workers in the USA. However, she was unable to join us due to a medical emergency. We had around 180 participants as the audience and we received excellent feedback from them.
Quiz
The Department organized an ‘Image Identification Quiz: Investigating 20th and 21st c Epidemics and Pandemics.’ on 28th- 29th May, 2020. It was an online quiz with 25 image - based questions. We had 1292 participants for the same. The quiz received an overwhelmingly good feedback and the participants appreciated its unique and interesting approach.

The Departments of History and Accountancy organised an Online Interdisciplinary quiz on the “History of Demonetization and Banking: Events and Facts” on June 26, 2020. 380 students participated in the quiz.
Webinar on
The Departments of History and Psychology organised a Webinar on “Personal Happiness and Success for Institutional Success” on July 4, 2020 for the faculty of Vaze College. It took place on the Zoom platform and was specially conducted for the faculty members of Vaze College. The resource person, Mr. Prasad Deole, Founder and Director of Z-bac Adventures, enlightened the audience on the finer points of pursuit of personal happiness, institutional harmony, tips and tricks for maintaining positivity, etc. It was attended by 80 participants and the workshop received positive feedback from all the staff members.

The Dept. of History organised a College level Online Webinar titled "An Engagement with Mahatma Gandhi on the International Day of Non Violence'' on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, October 2nd, 2020. This webinar explored various aspects of Gandhian thought through the presentations of our expert speakers. Prof. (Dr.) Preeta Nilesh, Vice Principal and Head, Dept. of History, shared her views on the ideological differences between Gandhi and Bhagat Singh while Mr. Manoj Sangare, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Commerce, spoke on the managerial qualities of Gandhi while Dr. Shruti Kakodkar, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Biotechnology, explored Gandhi's view on science. This multidisciplinary webinar was attended by 160 participants and was conducted on the zoom platform. The webinar received very favourable feedback about the organisation of the webinar, uniqueness of the topics as well as appreciation and praises for our speakers.

The Dept organised a webinar titled 'Stars & Stripes and The Tricolour' with a view to explore Indo-US relations in lieu of the upcoming Presidential Elections. The webinar was conducted on Saturday October 24th, 2020 and was attended by 134 participants on the zoom platform. Assistant Professor, Dept. of Political Science, Ms. Vishakha Patil’s presentation titled, 'Reflections on the Presidential Elections : India and The United States.' provided an insight on the way the President is elected in the oldest democracy of the world and the role played by the Indian diaspora in the United States. Mr. Shivraj Bhosale, Visiting Professor, Dept of Mass Media, shared his views on media representations through a paper titled, 'Decoding The Labyrinth : US Media and Presidential Elections.' This presentation facilitated understanding of the symbiotic nature of conventional and new media in shaping the discussions, opinions, revolving around politics in general and presidential elections in particular. Ms. Manasi Tirodkar, Associate Professor, Dept of Civics and Politics, University of Mumbai, explored soft power politics in her paper, 'From Persuasion to Coercion : Does Soft Power matter to America anymore?.
National level Webinar on
The Dept. organised a National level Webinar on the topic, ‘The Train’ on November 28th, 2020 on the Zoom platform over the course of 2 sessions. Various facets of the railways were explored with an interdisciplinary approach including physics, environment and ecology, economics, history and media. Our first speaker, Dr. Manoj Mahajan, Assistant Professor, Dept of Physics talked about the physics behind the working of the train engine in his paper titled, ‘Steam Engines: Movers of Mountain’. Ms. Neha Satoliya, Assistant Professor, Dept of Business Economics, spoke about the ‘Composition of Revenue of Mumbai Local: The Economic Perspective’ where she outlined the details of the revenue generated by the Mumbai Local passenger train. Dr. Deepali Karkhanis, Assistant Professor, Dept of Biotechnology, spoke about the interplay between the train and ecology in her paper ‘Ecological Impact of Railways: Types, Effects and Mitigation Measures’. In the evening session, Dr. Satwant Balse, Assistant Professor, Dept. of History presented her thoughts on the historical development of the Mumbai Railways in her paper, ‘Chugging through Mumbai’s Railway Heritage’ while Prof. (Dr.) Preeta Nilesh spoke about the presence and use of trains in Bollywood in her paper, ‘Romancing the Train and Romance in the Train: The Lens of Bollywood. Dr. Shyam Choithani, Assistant Professor, Dept of Mass Media presented his paper titled, ‘A home on wheels: Mapping a metropolitan city and its suburbs in Jaydeep Verma’s Local’ in which he gave detailed analysis of the symbolism of trains as used in this novel. This webinar was attended by 147 participants.

The Department of History and the Special Cell organised a webinar on 'The Indian Constitution: Women Empowerment’ to commemorate the Constitution Day, on 27th Nov 2020 at 4.00pm. The resource person was Ms. Shruti Shidhaye, Head-Legal, Procam International, who also happens to be the Alumnus of our College. Various issues pertinent to women including the legal and Constitutional provisions were discussed in detail. The session was a wrap up on provisions in the Fundamental Rights, Directive Principles and Special legislations. Faculty members and students (140) participated in the webinar.

The Dept. of History, in collaboration with the Dept. of Political Science, organised a National Level Webinar on the topic, 'Dr. Ambedkar: Exploring the Unknown, Revisiting the Known' on April 15, 2021 on the Zoom platform. Dr. Bina Sengar, Assistant Professor, Dept. of History and Ancient Indian Culture, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad, Maharashtra, in her concept note, 'Ambedkar: Reaching to the Unreached in Indian Democracy' emphasised the relevance of the concept of the webinar. Ms. Deepa Shirsat, Head, Dept. of Sociology, Vaze College (Autonomous) shared a comprehensive guide to the contribution of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar towards women empowerment through her paper on 'Dr. Ambedkar: A Champion of Women's Rights', highlighting the important legal provisions for the development and safety of women, as enshrined in the Indian Constitution, which were advocated by Dr. Ambedkar. Ms. Vaishali Dhammapathee, Head, Dept. of Economics, Vaze College (Autonomous), in her paper, 'Labour Welfare: Dr. Ambedkar's vision explained Dr. Ambedkar's vision on India's labour policies and his contribution in this field. Ms. Harshana Nikam, Dept. of History, Vaze College (Autonomous), presented a paper on ,'Dr. Ambedkar's views on India's Foreign Policy' wherein she highlighted the thoughts and criticisms of Dr. Ambedkar on the foreign policy of India before his demise in 1956. Prof. (Dr.) Nagaraju Gundemeda, Dept.of Sociology, University of Hyderabad spoke on The Relevance of Ambedkar Today' shedding light, with insightful examples on the relevance Dr. Ambedkar in our lives even today. Dr. Paresh More, Dept. of Chemistry, Vaze College (Autonomous), who shared with the audience many lesser known facts about the life of Dr. Ambedkar in his paper, 'Some Interesting Snippets about the life of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar'. The webinar was attended by 150 participants.
