Europe in Darkness
As family units were destroyed, religion shaken, and a sense of despair settled over the European continent thoughts of economic success and work were pushed to the side and in its place questions like where to bury the dead, whose fault the pestilence was, and how to earn God's favor became more prominent cultural concerns. This shift in conscience lead to an economic decline and relative doldrums during the Black Death.
GDP Per Capita During
In Figure 15 if you look closely at the GDP per capita (the grey line) You can see it make a small dip during the time period 1347-1351. This describes the economic output per individual and we can see that during the black death there is a decrease in the economic output per individual. This provides empirical evidence for the economic stagnation that occurred during the Black Death.
